3 Interactive Ideas For a Winning Holiday Campaign

April 22, 2015 | Dan Trefethen

Ok, be honest: When you read “holiday campaign” in that headline, did you click through at least partly because it’s April, and what could we possibly mean by “holiday campaign” in April?

Aren’t holiday campaigns for “The Holidays,” that vast expanse of festive cheer from late October through early January?

Well, I’m here to tell you that marketing around a holiday is great a way to connect with your audience any time of year.

Holidays are happening all around us all the time, from St. Patrick’s Day to the 4th of July, connecting us to each other with shared emotions, memories, traditions, and celebrations.

In fact, in May alone, you could run campaigns around Mother’s Day, Star Wars Day, Bike to Work Day, the Indy 500, and of course Memorial Day. If you can find a way to authentically connect your brand to these holidays, it’s a great opportunity to connect with your audience as people.

But what content should you create to reach out with? If you’re doing a quick-hit campaign, it might not make sense to develop a full corporate white paper. But you could try a bite-sized piece of interactive content!

Here are three ideas for your next campaign.

1. Personality Assessment

Create a fun personality assessment that connects the holiday or seasonal theme to your brand. Your audience will identify with a particular persona, determine their strengths or weaknesses, or benchmark themselves.

Assessments are more likely to be shared on social media (think Buzzfeed quizzes all over your timeline), giving this content type a nice viral element.

2. Knowledge Test or Quiz

Quizzes are an easy way to create engagement around a holiday, with tons of facts and trivia available to test your prospects’ knowledge. Think about layering in questions about your own product or service to keep the content relevant.

3. Contest or Gallery

Holidays are a great opportunity to host a photo, video or other contest or to conduct a sweepstakes. With a seasonal theme, you can use your own content (employee photos or stories) or encourage your audience to upload entries.

Contests and galleries are a great way to get your audience to interact on mobile devices or to generate buzz around an event.

One of the advantages of interactive content is that the interactivity makes it fun, so you have permission to be a little more lighthearted than your company’s written tone of voice might allow.

Interactive content is also quick to create, so you can skin an existing piece of content with a holiday-appropriate theme and offer it out to your audience with a seasonal hook.

Convinced? Check out our interactive assessment, below, to find out what type of interactive content is the perfect match for your holiday campaign. Have fun!
